Here is an interesting post about how the magazine industry is getting whacked and my Marc Andreessens take on it. My personal view is that this is a huge help long term for niche bloggers. If you write about the XYZ field and the leading publication is forced out of business by weak marketing practices than you can help pick up the slack.
