The Dardenne brothers can be likened to the French auteur Robert Bresson in the stark clarity of their vision. Their understated humane and compassionate style shines through the bleak lives of the characters, barely adult, barely existing …on the margins of society. They are severely adamant about their objective, non-judgmental stance. They use the camera as a tool to let us see how these characters act and react. It’s not even about any deep insights into their motivations.
