Marion Cotillard, who was nominated for an Oscar for role as Edith Piaf in La Vie en Rose, is to join Johnny Depp and Christian Bale in Public Enemies, the Depression-era crime drama directed by Michael Mann. The movie is an adaptation of the Brian Burrough book Public Enemies: America’s Greatest Crime Wave and the Birth of the FBI, 1933-43. It tells the story of government efforts to stop the notorious criminals John Dillinger, Baby Face Nelson and Pretty Boy Floyd. Depp is playing Dillinger with Bale set to play FBI agent Melvin Purvis. Dillinger was one of the most well-known crime figures from the early 1930s, responsible for a string of daring heists before eventually being shot dead by police in a Chicago ambush in 1934 aged 31.
