Since bedrooms are private spaces, it’s easy to let them become cluttered and crowded with things that don’t belong. Your bedroom should be a calm, relaxing place that you look forward to being in. One thing I have found is that if your bedroom is a mess- it is practically impossible to feel sexy. If you are staring at piles of dirty laundry, stacks of things that don’t belong, a treadmill or a stack of bills romance is probably the furthest thing from your mind. So, what to do? First and foremost get in the habit of keeping your bedroom clean and picked up. After you banish the piles of laundry and clutter, your bedroom will be a much more enjoyable place to be. Next up, assess what your bedroom is currently functioning as. Is it multi-tasking as gym and home-office? I know that looking at a stack of bills would be a complete mood killer for me- or worse- a glance at the treadmill! Your bedroom is for two things- sleeping and romance. If you can, try to find another place to put things that don’t belong. Have you ever heard people talk about how “in the mood†they feel at a hotel? I am convinced that part of this is because the hotel room is neat, tidy and free from distractions. Once you take away these things from your bedroom- you’re on your way to creating a similar environment- only your bedroom will have personal touches that make it feel intimate and inviting.
With your space cleaned and cleared you can focus on bringing in personal touches that create an intimate feel. Soft sheets, candles, romantic music, and meaningful trinkets are a good start. (I have a little dish that has sea-shells that we collected on our honeymoon, a framed Valentine’s card, and wedding picture on my night-stand). By clearing out and selecting personal things to adorn your private space, you are creating a serene haven that promises to bring a little sexy back!
