As I expected, some people are having a lot of success with Blogging Zoom, and some aren’t fully utilizing what’s available to them. Since this tool ultimately is here to help you to get as much traffic as possible, I want to be as transparent as I can. I basically want to tell you how to get results with Blogging Zoom.
How To Get Indirect Search Traffic With BZ
I’ve been watching the BZ stats closely and have seen that some of you have been able to get over 100 unique hits per day that are direct results of search engine traffic we’ve been able to get. The ones that are doing this are treating their submissions quite differently than everyone else so I wanted to give you some insights into this.
We can do a lot to help your pages to get ranked, in fact we have already been able to achieve quite a few number one rankings that pulled and pushed a ton of Google traffic. The submissions that we have been able to do this with were written with keywords in mind.
A great example of a submission that pulled insane amount of search traffic is this one made by Dax: Manny Ramirez On Jay Leno. If you look at the description that was used you won’t be surprised that it ranked really well for any search related to Manny’s appearance on Jay Leno:
Manny Ramirez on Jay Leno? Everyone knows that Manny Ramirez has always been shy with the media, but he apparently made an appearance on Jay Leno last night and looked like the mayor of Boston.
For those of you that have always been curious about Manny but haven’t heard him speak that much, his appearance on Leno should satisfy your curiosity. He talks about his love for cars, the curse of the bambino and some other very interesting things.
I personally never expected to see Manny Ramirez on Jay Leno, not in a million years!
You’ll notice that this description has ‘Manny Ramirez’ in it three times, but still flows well and doesn’t seem spammish at all. You will also notice that ‘Manny Ramirez on Jay Leno’ appears a few times in this description, but Dax found a way to make it still sound great. This submission brought around 1,000 searches from Google and pushed a good percentage of that traffic to the post submitted.
Adding Tags
Adding more tags can also help your submissions to get ranked for more keywords. Think about the different ways that people might search for your content. The Manny Ramirez and Jay Leno example would give us quite a few possible searches: Manny Ramirez on Jay Leno, Manny Ramirez Jay Leno, Manny Ramirez Jay Leno Show, Jay Leno Manny Ramirez. We can get you to rank better for those keywords more easily if you use them when you tag!
How To Get More Zooms
Making Friends
The people that have had the most success getting zooms so far are the people that are participating the most actively. The people that aren’t getting many are the people that aren’t visiting other sites and zooming actively themselves. Making BZ friends will help you more than anything, and if you’re too selfish to visit the sites of your friends, they will probably make other friends.
I can tell you that most of the users that are getting on the front page are the ones that have been zooming the most posts. There is an entirely different group that is submitting their own work, and not zooming at all. As I’ve looked through the user numbers, I can tell you that there is a good percentage of users that submit their work but don’t zoom anyone else. These users aren’t doing very well.
On the other hand there are users such as fredpeters who has submitted 6 posts and has zoomed over 60 posts. It’s not shocker to learn that this user has hit the front page 5 out of 6 times. Another very active zoomer is Grizzly, who has submitted 3 times and zoomed 76 posts. Grizzly has hit the front page with every post he’s submitted. Blendworx has hit the front page 18 out of 19 times, and that doesn’t surprise me because he’s been very active. He’s zoomed 52 posts and has been adding friends.
Writing Catchy Titles
Letting users submit their own work is great because each of you has 100% control over the content you’re submitting. I can tell you right now that I’ve seen at least 100 submissions that would have hit the front page with a better title. I usually check the posts out if I see any potential, but a catchy title can seal the deal for you. Here are some of the highest zoomed posts so far:
- StumbleUpon - The “Super Stumble” Traffic Tip
- Blogging Zoom Bringing The Man Down
- Money-Hungry Kumiko Acts Like Blogging is a Business | Pajama Professional
- 35 Guaranteed Ways to Increase Your RSS Subscribers
- Attention Websmasters - Do you socialize? Want to make it easier?
- 5 technology disasters, horrors and tragedies
- The Life of a Black Hatter
As you can see, the headlines of these posts are really great. The importance of your post headlines is enormous, and I wanted to refer you to a fantastic resource that can help you to write headlines that are 1000 times better. 10 Sure-Fire Headline Formulas That Work is an article on CopyBlogger that can help you to capture massive interest with your headlines.

Thanks Court for this disclosure of how to get better results from BZ. The insights you have got from these last few days of observing the trend are just great. I get the whole picture that you are putting across. I feel I’m doing quite well at the moment but things can improve further.
Can you explain why a couple of my submissions are stuck in submitted status - for 2 and 3 days respectively now? Also what does submitted status mean ?
Oops I stuck in “upcoming” rather than submitted! BTW it appears to me that to get on the front page you need to blog about something to do with internet marketing or American celebraties
Lissie when you make a submission the story needs to get 5 votes to be worthy to go to the main page. Court explains how to increase your vote count.
Hi guys,
Would it be possible to create a bookmarklet that can be added below the posts in WP. I’m trying to steer away from all the big plugin and vote buttons everybody seems to offer these days and would love to be able to add some little button to the end of my post instead for others to vote on.
Any ideas?
Cheers
Monika
We have added that option http://bloggingzoom.com/blog/b.....ss-plugin/
Nice summary. Your effort in helping us figure out how to succeed and get the site rolling is much appreciated.

Hi, Love what you are accomplishing here and would like to be a regular part of it, but for the life of me I can’t get your site to take my title. The title is “Why Senior Citizens Shouldn’t Adopt Young Animals”. Can you help please…?
Also what I am unclear on the minimum amount of words you can have in the description box.
Thanks!
Your problem seems not to be with the title but you do not have enough characters there is a 350 minimum
I’m not sure where to post this and thought the rest of the community could benefit from the answer, so I’m asking here. I hope that’s ok.
About Karma:
What’s its purpose?
How is it determined?
What can I do to increase mine?
I see it listed on my profile and it’s been at 10 since I joined and submitted my first zoom.
Thanks for taking the time to help.
Karma is point system this will be used in future BZ features
I understand the necessity of a higher character limit, but you could make it more simple. Add a counter below the box, so we know when we’ve crossed it.
Also, does the title of a single item page have to begin with BloggingZoom? Could it not be at the end of the title rather than the beginning?
Keep up the good work!
Hi Sutocu:
The counter is in the works and you are right on the other we just need to figure how to change this and not affect us in the SERPS
Hey Court thank you very much for mentioning me here. I love Bloggingzoom and the stories that I find here.
To all of you bloggingzoom users, add me as a friend. I am here to get to know you and your work.
