Have you chosen the most logical cities to fly into and out of? Australia is a huge country: Perth to Sydney is a 4 hour flight. You don't want to backtrack from Perth if your international flight is heading east!
Also consider carefully before buying a ticket from a budget carrier - sometimes they offer outstanding deals, but other times you are committing to hours in cramped conditions, or multiple transfers to only save a few dollars.
