Lost - “The Beginning of the End”

One of the central mysteries in the TV show Lost is the elusive Jacob.  Is he alive?  Is he real?  Is he a ghost?  A psychic vision?  Something made of smoke?  Well, in the season four opener, we got a big reveal:  he has something to do with our lead castaway Jack's life, specifically in the form of Christian Shepard, Jack's father.  What's the meaning there?  And who are the Oceanic Six and what are they covering up?
