T-Mobile, AT&T, Verizon, Alltel, you name them all, and they're all using some different version of cell phone technology.
Some standards are great for across the board compatibility. Often one company decides how to do something and it becomes a standard. And they become a monopoly. Sometimes when there are many ways of doing something it just gets to be a mess, and expensive to cross connect.
How come the USA has 4 different phone frequencies and 3 different protocols, and multiple data methodologies? And all different from the rest of the world. Can't we agree on anything anymore?
