Ever been talking with your regular computer geek and had him tell you that you need to upgrade to 802.11g wireless because 802.11b is so slow? That you'll get 54Mbps throughput with 'g'? Might be an idea to smack him upside the head, because he's feeding you a load of crap.

If you're like 95% of the world with broadband access, that fast wireless connection will hit your internet connection and slow right down to whatever speed you're paying for from your ISP. In other words, only the wireless segment between your laptop and your wireless router will be any faster. Now, if you're moving files around the house wirelessly, *that* will definitely be faster.

But it won't make the internet faster.
