Serious Science: bionic eye in sight?

Wayne Smallman discusses the possibilities of enhancing human vision with a bionic eye in the Six Million Dollar Man stylee. One aspect of the work may involve circuitry added to contact lenses. He discusses the potential for military applications. He also alludes to the visual feast that a future PlayStation 6 or an Xbox 480 might bring us! I don't think he's quite serious about the gaming possibilities, but he is most serious about the possibility of bionic vision some time in the not too distant future.
