Frank Robinson was in baseball because he loved it not for the money. Prior to today's stupid salaries that's what people did who wanted to play baseball for fun. The New Zealand All Blacks Rugby team has a similar tradition: they used to be farmers in the off season: and yes there was an off season and play Rugby in the winter: when there is less farm work: its all different now
