Get your free donut day. Well not completely. National Donut Day began in 1938 as a way for the Salvation army to raise funds and to commemorate WWI female volunteers that fed American front line infantry men during WWI. Today the National holiday occurs every first friday of June. Through out the country donut shops give out free donuts on national Donut Day as a way to solicite donations for the Salvation Army.
