Mermaid Parade Coney Island

Coney Island is one of the few remaining vestiges of old New York's entertainment history. The Mermaid Parade has been fun for 25 years and slightly risque but now a platform for a protest against rezoning that might be the end of Coney Island's boardwalk and amusement district.
Where would everyone go if Coney Island shrinks in half? 850000 visitors will not be buying many planned condos if there are no attractions to go to.
