Porsche Brand To Expand Niche

I'd love to drive a Porsche 911 and to be able to afford owning one. Porsche has an enduring status of high performance and engineering that few other breeds can match, although I understand they can be a bit tricky to get used to, with a tendency to oversteer when you don't expect to.
There are some other great cars like Audi's R8, a derivative of the race car quattro, but that's even more exotic.
Perhaps I can get a taste of Porsche if I settle for a base VW.
