This is Part 1 of an article about Small Business Accounting Software. It discusses what Small Business Accounting Software should ideally have, and what features are desirable and practical. It also discusses some of the misconceptions about small business accounting and small business software, and gives a list of features that all accounting software should contain. It's a pretty extensive article, and it can be useful for accountants and bookkeepers about to embark on a long, complicated journey into the small business industry.
Part 2 of this article, which is currently still in writing, will compare QuickBooks, Peachtree, Sage and Microsoft Office Accounting.
