There comes a time in some blogs when you have to change your permalinks. This is often because of a lack of planning at the start of the blog, a change in focus or a change of blog software.

When the permalinks are changed, your posts "disappear" from sight and the search engines will give you a 404 error. To bring them back into view you need to issue 301 redirects for each page that has "gone". This restores their visibility to not only you and your visitors but to the search engines as well.

This post shows you two of the methods you can use to create the 301 redirects, so that when you do change your permalinks all will not be lost.
