Many must not of read the article and just though I was praising John Chow like many do. I could care less really, however advertising on his widget not only brought us traffic, but also gave us more entrecard points which is good for anything. I don’t care much about him, or how much money he makes. However, he is getting all that traffic and money and I’d sure love a piece of it. Why not?

Even if most of what he said would be total nonsense (not saying it is so), there must be something to learn from John Chow, because he is successful.
Besides, stopping to blindly follow all of what John Chow tells us does not help up very much, if we jump to Vic’s bandwagon and do the same with everything he tells us. I’m not trying to bash anyone here, but no one has everything right or everything wrong. There’s something to learn from everyone, and something to disagree with in everyone’s speech.

Keep in mind that Chow became successful by Gaming Digg, Technorati and then he tried Google. The thing is his methods can't be used by others as he got caught and took away the opportunity. The other A listers made a name for themselves with quality content and they utilize search traffic to make their money - the fame is a bonus not the driving force. Chow made it by cheating with little substance to back up his position. If others could do what he did then I wouldn't have a problem with him but others can't and don't know it.
Keep in mind that Vic is giving out real info for free and not making money off his readers by enrolling them in useless programs that he is paid to promote. This is what Chow does - when was the last time he gave anyone a tip that actually worked and didn't involve lining his own pockets?
If we can learn anything from Chow it's his salesmanship. Like most good salespeople he has the gift of baffling people with bullshit and getting them to thank him for it. This is a gift that I think you are born with and he has it in spades. You make a good point though - if we take a little bit from everyone we will be farther ahead than just following blindly along one path.
Great discussion and points noted.
